Button bouquet: round two
We’ve already shared one button bouquet with you, and now we’re bringing you another. This time you’ll need a bit more than just an extensive button collection, but the result is just as spectacular.
You’ll need:
Buttons
Felt
Needle & thread
Ribbon
Scissors
Skewer sticks
Instructions:
- Start by cutting flowers from your felt.
- Thread the buttons onto your felt flowers, making sure to keep and excess length of thread on the backside of the flower. You’ll need this thread to secure the flower to the front of the stick. Alternatively, you could always use a spot of glue to keep it in place.
- Tie small strips of ribbon around the stick to resemble leaves.
- Plop your bouquet in a vase and you’re good to go.

Crafting your way to DIY tape
You may remember this clever little tutorial on how to make your own Fabric Tape. We’re continuing with this crafty theme, and supplying you with some wonderful tips on how to create more great tape.
Take this lace tape from Free Pretty Things For You. By simply sticking a strip of ribbon to one side of some double sided tape, you too can create beautiful embellishments for note books, presents and more.
Not as big a fan of lace as we are? What about ribbon? Using the above mentioned steps you can just as easily create some ribbon related wonders.

Easter garlands and embroidery floss eggs
Alissa of Crafty Endeavor put together a delicious Easter themed tutorial that we just had to share.
You’ll need:
1 Cup liquid starch
½ Cup flour
Embroidery Floss
Balloons
Instructions:
- Blend together the liquid starch and flour. Coil your embroidery floss into a bowl of your starch/flour mix and gently press it into the “goo”
- Blow up a couple of balloons to whatever size you desire and wrap the goo laden floss around it. Alissa says to make sure that you wipe off and excess goo and let it fall back into the bowl.
- Leave to dry for several hours and, once dried, pop the balloon. If there is any crusty stuff in between the floss you can always just scrape it away using a pin like Alissa did. Thread the eggs onto a clean piece of floss to make your garland.

Great gift craft: The Lucky Ducky
We found this Lucky Ducky on the Nosey Nest Weblog and fell in love with his kind words friendly nature. He or she would make a great gift for the baby or duck enthusiast of the family, don’t you agree?
You’ll need:
- Felt (at least 3 different colors; yellow for the duck, orange for its beak and wings, and blue for the little pouch)
- A little scrap of fabric or felt for the heart at the pouch
- Little black beads for the eyes
- Some stuffing
- Beads for decoration - optional
Parts* (click here to download PDF)
- Side ( cut twice, yellow felt )
- Belly ( cut once, yellow felt )
- Beak ( cut twice, orange felt )
- Wing ( cut twice, orange felt )
- Pouch ( cut once, blue felt )
- Heart ( cut once, the little scrap of fabric )
*Enlarge to any size you wish.
Instructions:
- Cut out all the parts – don’t worry about including a seam.
- Blanket stitch the two sides together from the top of the beak to the tail.
- Put the tummy in. Blanket stitch from tail to beak and then from chest to tail.
- Don't forget to stuff the body before you close it!
- Blanket stitch the two beak parts together.
- Blanket stitch the beak at lucky ducky's head.
- Blanket stitch the little heart on the pouch and the pouch on the duck’s chest. Don't forget to stitch the wings to the body, leaving the tips open. Sew on the black beads for the eyes.
- You might want to decorate your ducky with some beads, but otherwise you're done!

Transform your Zippers into Rocking Accessories
One of the reasons we love Brit + Co so much is their talent for turning unconventional items into wearable accessories. Take this tutorial for instance, which shows you how to transform everyday zippers into awesome arm candy:

You’ll need:
- Zippers
- Quick hold contact adhesive
- Leather crimps and clasps
- Needle nose pliers
- Sharp scissors
Instructions
- Zipper Bangles
- Cut close to the zip so that there’s almost no fabric on the sides and measure around your wrist. Cut any excess zipper but make sure it can still zip! Attach cord ends so that you can add a clasp and loop.
- Braided Cuff
- For this one, you’ll want a zipper with some contrast. We chose a black zipper with gold teeth. Cut it in half and then unzip so you have four pieces. Discard one. Clamp three with a leather crimp and braid! Add a crimp to the other end, clasp, and done.
- Blinged Out Cuff
- Take a long zipper and cut it in half (Make sure it fits around your wrist twice!). Glue the two halves together. Add velcro or snap buttons on either end to fasten it around your wrist.
- Now, get some more zippers (preferably the same color) and cut them down to the teeth. Using glue to attach them and start making a spiral design. Keep gluing along the way (use a toothpick to tidy up glue that squeezes out). Leave to dry and then accessorize!

Time for a cuppa? Make your own tea cosy.
There is nothing better on a cold winter's afternoon than a warm spot, good book and a cup of tea. Here's a useful little project that will keep your pot hot and your winter warm.
We’ll start off by creating a pattern for your tea cosy –
this pattern is made to fit the average 4-6 cup tea pot, but can be easily
altered should your pot be larger.
- Draw
a rectangle 17cm x 28cm in size.
- Grab
a dinner plate (You’ll be using this to create the rounded corners at the
top of your cosy). Fold your rectangle in half along the 17cm line. Place
the plate on the top corner, aligning its outer edge with the rectangle
and trace a curve between the two lines (See below)
- Cut out and unfold patterns

Having made your pattern it’s time to start sewing.
- Cut
your fabric – you’ll need 2 pieces of your main fabric, 2 pieces of the
lining fabric and two pieces of batting or filler.
- Pin
a piece of your main fabric to your filler (Wrong side facing the filler)
and stitch around the edge, securing the filler to the fabric. Repeat with
the second piece of main fabric and the other cut of filler.
- Pin
a main/filling piece to one of the lining cuts, with the right sides of
the fabrics facing one another and sew together along the base. Leave a
1.5cm seam allowance. Do the same for the other pieces of fabrics and
filling.
- Open each piece out so that the seam is facing towards the lining fabric and carefully iron. Remember not to use the iron directly on the filling or the whole venture will go up in smoke.

- Put
the two halves of the cosy together and pin, matching the seams where the
main and lining fabric meet. Leave a gap of about 10cm in the seam of the
lining when pinning so that you can turn the tea cosy right side out
later. Sew around the edges of the
cosy leaving a 1.5cm seam allowance, but remember to MIND THE GAP, when it
comes to the lining.
- Turn
the tea cosy right side out and close the gap in the lining.
- Turn
the lining into the main body of the cosy and, matching the main side seam
and the lining side seam on each side, pin.
- Stitch around the base of the cosy, just below where the main and lining fabric meet, to strengthen the base.
