The NAMES Project

So many of us search daily for a way to make a difference in the world around us, which faces so many tragedies and disasters. Now quilters have found a way to do just that with the NAMES project, an international quilting organisation dedicated to remembering those who have died of AIDS, expressing their grief and raising awareness and understanding of the devastating effects of this pandemic.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt in Washington DC (October 1987)
Originally founded in the USA in 1987, the South African AIDS Memorial Quilt was started in Cape Town in 1989 and the movement now has representation in many countries around the world.

More information about the original South African AIDS Memorial Quilt is available here.

A new project, (2015)Quilt is now under way. You can get more information and pledge your support here.
