Flippity flop, the Knot So Hard Flip Flops

From The Mother Huddle comes The Knot So Hard Flip Flops and just in time for spring too.

You’ll need:

§                     flip flops

§                     kitchen scissors or a craft knife

§                     about a 25cm of fabric off the bolt, or scrap fabric

§                     hot glue – not absolutely necessary

Fabric Cuts:

You will need four 11.5 x 61cm strips.  You may be able to get away with less, but at least you’ll have a lot to work with just in case.

Assembly:

1.    Start by pushing the straps through the back a little and cutting off the wide part holding them in place. Now you should have a pair of flip flops sans straps.

2.     Cut your fabric strips at the tips into points (see image).

3.    Take two fabric strips and pull the ends through the hole at the toe.Tie a good and tight double knot on the underside of the flops and trim.

4.    Turn the flop over.  Tie one knot about an inch from the shoe; this is where it will go in between your toes.  Hold both the straps together to tie it.

5.     Tie a second knot right behind the first knot, good and tight.

6.     Now pull the two straps through the side holes like shown.

7.     Put the flip flop on and tighten the strap to where it is tight on the top of your footand then tie a knot on each side.  Take the shoe off and make sure that the knots are tight, try the shoe on again and make sure it fits. Walk around in it and make sure it is not too loose.  Remember, fabric stretches, so it’s better if it is a little snug.

8.     Turn the flop over and cut off the ends of the straps.

9.     To reinforce the knots a little you might want to add a little dab of hot glue in the holes.

Embroidered Gift Tags

Ideas has done it again. This embroidered gift tag is oh so creative and versatile – a gift tag and wall hanging all in one. To create your own start with the smallest wooden embroidery hoop you can find and fit some fabric into the frame. Cut out flowers from fabric remnants and tack in place to secure. Embellish by embroidering stems and leaves and don’t forget the recipient’s name! Finish off with a few pieces of ribbon and attach it to the gift.

The Pocket Tie

Turn an average everyday tie into a wearable wallet thanks to this helpful instructable from Brit Morin of Brit + Co.

You’ll need:
- a tie
- a small piece of fabric (for the pockets)
- needle and thread
- sewing pins
- snap button
- optional: sewing machine

Instructions:

Use scissors or a seam ripper to unstitch the back of the tie. Take your pocket fabric and cut a piece that will serve as the iPhone pocket and base pocket layer.

Iron the fabric. Pin it, lay it in the tie to make sure you’re all good. Sew!

Repeat with the next pocket, using a credit card to measure the size. Sew the card pocket to the iPhone pocket.

Now, you need to attach it to the tie. Pin it to the tie so that it doesn’t go through the front. Turn the tie inside out and hand sew the pocket to the inside layer of fabric in the tie.

Lastly, add a simple snap button to keep the pocket closed.
